I feel like a newborn fawn poking around the site. I know 14-year-old me would have picked this up so fast but also trying to recalibrate my brain to old internet ways is taking me a second. Yet having to search for fandoms communities I like is making this part of the internet a bit fun again.

Also thinking about making a website for funsies. My html is so bad but I love templates so muuuch. The journals already making my brain churn. I could easily use my 1999 camera on here and make it more me like how I used to use LJ. I'm so excited//

Welcome!

[community profile] newcomers has lots of resources about how to use Dreamwidth and where to find things you'll enjoy here. If you're coming from Tumblr, [personal profile] soc_puppet has posted tutorials for that angle. Find your Tumblr friends here.

The Follow Friday Master Post has lists of active communities by topic where you can look for some based on your interests, including some of the Most Useful Communities. Many bloggers use recurring posts to pin down their key interests and maintain activity, which is also a good source of inspiration if you aren't sure what you want to post yet.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge is running in January. This is a big event with lots of activity where you can find new friends.

Find fandom on [community profile] fandomcalendar. Some individual fandoms have their own newsletter or bulletin board comm, so do search your favorites.

Go for it!

>>This is so helpful! Thank you so much for the links!<<

I'm happy I could help. :D

>> I was honestly going into active users profiles to see what communities they were in and poking around that way <<

It's a good approach if you find someone who shares a lot of your interests. The main drawback is that you can't tell which of those communities are still active until you visit each of them to check the last post.

Another good place to find active communities is [site community profile] dw_community_promo which includes new communities, established ones that are doing events, and periodic promotion of older ones to catch new readers.
